The Story:
Perhaps the most stunning of Donald McKay Frost’s gifts to AAS was a set of 86 watercolors and pencil sketches (two shown left - entire collection here). The British artist Henry James Warre made them while exploring the Oregon Territory and its contested northern border. Many of the watercolors were reproduced as hand-colored lithographs in Warre’s Sketches in North America and the Oregon Territory (London, 1848), which Frost also donated to AAS.
