Gift of Waldo Lincoln, 1926.
The Story:
The Waldo Lincoln collection of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century West Indian newspapers remains one of the most important anywhere and numbers several thousand issues—many the only known copies. The Royal Danish American Gazette was the first newspaper published in the present-day Virgin Islands. Portions were printed in Danish for the benefit of St. Croix’s sizable Danish population.
