The Details:

Interesting Tracts, Relating to the Island of Jamaica, Consisting of Curious State-Papers, Councils of War, Letters … Down to the Year 1702. St. Jago de la Vega: Lewis, Lunan, and Jones, 1800. [catalog record]

Bequest of Frederick Lewis Gay, 1918.

The Story:

AAS has a remarkable collection of British Caribbean imprints. Given the vagaries of time and climate, these Caribbean books, pamphlets, almanacs, and newspapers are now of exceptional rarity.  Among them is Interesting Tracts, a 300-page quarto printed in Jamaica, acquired as part of Frederick Lewis Gay’s 1918 bequest. It publishes important documents originally recorded in manuscript concerning the seventeenth-century British conquest and rule of Jamaica.
