The essays give more biographical information and details on the printing and publishing of their works. Essays on Printers
The printers represented range from small-town printers who print everything in their town, to printers with abolitionist sentiments, to newspaper offices. Seventeen works on our list were printed by known black printers, linking the text to the black printing trade and spheres of black enterprise and readership in early America. Information on black printers is scarce. The stories of two such black printers are highlighted below.
