The Story:
Concerned about the difficulty of accessing primary sources, AAS librarian Clifford K. Shipton wanted to place surrogates in as many libraries as possible. In 1954, he began working with Readex Microprint Corporation and established a partnership which continues today. The concept was simple: produce and distribute a microprint of every early American book, pamphlet, and broadside. Once complete the Early American Imprints microprint edition made over 36,000 titles accessible to patrons at hundreds of institutions worldwide.
