The Story:
Only two copies are known of this extremely rare Spanish language text, a landmark in the history of early California printing. The text is a series of questions and answers covering such topics as the alphabet, vowels, diphthongs, and basic punctuation. The Catecismo is one of just four book-length imprints known to have been published by Agustín Juan Vicente Zamorano, a Mexican government official and the first printer active in colonial California.
