Gift of the estate of John W. Farwell, 1942-1943.

The Story:

John W. Farwell’s interest in early Americana was all-encompassing and from his library AAS obtained many important works concerning the English settlements south of New England. Among these was this optimistic description of the Virginia Colony at a critical juncture in its history. Issued by the governing body of the Virginia Company, the Declaration summarizes the colony’s rapid growth.
