The Story:
At the second Brinley sale, AAS obtained this association copy of what is often considered the finest Benjamin Franklin imprint. At Franklin’s direction, this volume was bound in paneled calf for Thomas Clap, president of Yale College, who recorded the gift on the front flyleaf. Clap was responsible for the first printed catalogue of Yale College Library (1743) and the establishment of a press at New Haven in 1755.
