The Story:
Of the endowed funds established at AAS, none has been more significant than the Harry G. Stoddard Memorial Fund, which honors a Worcester industrialist and newspaper publisher. Today the fund accounts for one-fifth of the annual acquisition budget. One significant Stoddard-funded acquisition was this unique copy of Pamela published by Benjamin Franklin and considered the first novel printed in America.
