In Pursuit of a Vision > Case 10 > Adomeit > Life of Philip

The Details:

The Life of Philip Quarll, Giving an Account of his Surprising Adventures on an Inunhabited [sic] Island. Baltimore: C. Scheld and Co., 1833. [catalog record]

Purchase, Ruth E. Adomeit Book Fund, 2004.

The Story:

Transatlantic imprints reveal the extent to which publishing became an international activity during the nineteenth century. This children’s book is a good example. It was probably printed in Paris—the footnotes provide French translations for some phrases, and the copies sold in the United States received a Baltimore imprint.
