The Story:
Richard Mather’s son Increase was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts. After graduating from Harvard College, Increase became the minister at Boston’s Second Church. In 1688 he went to England as an advocate for the Massachusetts Bay Colony, remaining there for four years. In this letter Increase’s son Cotton expresses concern about the possibility that his father would not return to New England.
