Gift of James Melville Hunnewell, 1935.
The Story:
The Hunnewell gift included much illustrated Americana, including this set of thirty engraved plans of French and English forts from the French and Indian War. First published in 1763, A Set of Plans was reissued (changing only the title-page date) in 1765; today both issues are rare. The plans are a modest 6 x 7.5 inches in size, save for the first fold-out plan of lower Manhattan.
