In Pursuit of a Vision > Case 5 > Farwell > Death of Wolfe

The Details:

The Death of the Brave General Wolfe. Massachusetts: Ezekiel Russell, between 1775 and 1797. [catalog record]

Gift of the estate of John W. Farwell, 1942-1943.

The Story:

This is the only known copy of this particular broadside printing.  Both ballads on the sheet commemorate one of the most famous events of the Seven Years’ War: the death in 1759 of General James Wolfe, leader of the combined Colonial and British forces at the Battle of Quebec.  Broadside ballads celebrating Wolfe’s heroism proliferated in America up until the War of 1812.
