The Story:

William Lloyd Garrison inscribed this copy of his selected works to John Greenleaf Whittier: “From his old, attached and admiring friend.”  Rev. Herbert E. Lombard was elected to AAS membership in 1913. Although never wealthy, he enjoyed collecting bookplates and presentation copies of American writers  He eventually formed a comprehensive collection of the works of Whittier.
