The Details:

Henry M. Johnson. Iron, Steel & Metals. 36 India Street, Boston, Mass. Boston: Ch. H. Crosby, 1870-1872. [catalog record]

Gift of Charles Henry Taylor, n.d.

The Story:

Charles Henry Taylor was interested in any print, book or piece of ephemera printed lithographically, not just prints by well-known firms. Charles H. Crosby printed ephemera, children’s books, and advertising prints. He experimented with color printing in the early 1870s, using multiple stones to print four- and five-color prints, including this example of an advertisement for a metal dealer.
