The Story:

Children’s picture books depicting vendors and their cries were first printed in America in the eighteenth century. This mid-nineteenth century example contains verse by Frances S. L. Osgood, a poet and friend of Edgar Allan Poe. Shown is the newsboy, whose occupation would have appealed to Charles Henry Taylor.
