The Story:

This miniature, commissioned by Baldwin’s father, was taken shortly before his departure for Ohio in 1835. Baldwin sat for painter Sarah Goodridge, who worked in Boston and in Worcester County.  Goodridge has been called America’s finest woman miniaturist, and her sitters included Gilbert Stuart, Daniel Webster, and an elderly Dolley Madison.
