In Pursuit of a Vision > Case 2 > Baldwin > Several Rules...

The Details:

Several Rules, Orders, and By-Laws … Made and Agreed upon … May, 12. and September 22. 1701Boston: Bartholomew Green and John Allen, for Benjamin Eliot, 1702. [catalog record]

Gift of Thomas Wallcut, 1834.

The Story:

This pamphlet constitutes a mere half ounce of the 4,476 pounds of books and manuscripts selected by Christopher Columbus Baldwin from the Thomas Wallcut hoard and carted off to AAS in August, 1834. Yet it is representative of Wallcut’s careful selection from the offerings of Boston bookshops and auctions. As the title-page inscription indicates, it was one of many items obtained by Wallcut at the posthumous auction of the Boston minister and poet Mather Byles.
