The Details:

James Porter. Clergyman’s Pocket Diary and Visiting Book. 186__. New York: Carlton and Porter, 1860. [catalog record]

Purchase, John Thomas Lee Fund, 2008.

The Story:

In recent years AAS has been acquiring partly printed volumes intended to be written in by the user. These volumes fall at the intersection of manuscript and print and include forms such as albums, composition books, ship’s logs, and diaries. Such volumes reveal much about the market for job printing and specialty publishing. This pocket diary was prepared for use by Methodist ministers. The volume provides sections for keeping records of baptisms, marriages and funerals.
