The Story:
Amateur journalism exploded in popularity in the United States following the invention of the table-top printing press in 1867. Le Bijou was edited by a young member of one of Cincinnati’s leading African-American families. Herbert Clark’s father was an associate of Frederick Douglass, and worked to establish free public schools for African-Americans.
