The alcoves, a feature of the panoptic library plan that influenced Tefft and his mentor, Charles C. Jewett, were adapted for the Society’s rectangular hall. Bound newspapers were stored beneath the cabinet and the reading table at left. Art from the Society’s collections, including portraits, busts, and other framed works were displayed around the room.
