The Story:
For years Thomas had assiduously gathered the primary evidence of print history in American before 1775, building a large library in the process. The result was this comprehensive text with printer biographies, newspaper and periodical histories, and information on booksellers, paper mills, and related topics. This copy was bound for Thomas by John Roulstone, then generally acknowledged as Boston’s most accomplished bookbinder.
