Darley, Felix Octavius Carr, 1822-1888.

The Society has in its collection the account book of Felix Octavius Carr (F.O.C.) Darley. Several pages of the book feature Darley's accounts with Stringer and Townsend for an illustrated edition of Cooper's novels, which was published beginning in 1859 and ending in 1861. Darley provided illustrations for two plates from each of the thirty-two works in the edition. As the account shows, Darley was paid thirty-five dollars for each plate design and an additional twenty-five dollars for designing the head and tail pieces.
