            <p>
                WHEN our good <name type ="ship">Constitution</name> was last moor'd in port,<lb/>
                After having a round of <name type ="nationality">American</name> sport;<lb/>
                After shewing the <name type ="nationality">British</name> we never knew fear,<lb/>
                And dispatching to <name type ="mythological">Davy</name> proud Madam <name type ="ship">Guerriere</name>,<lb/>
                CHORUS.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">Our cans with good liquor were flowing quite full,<lb/>
                    And we toss'd off a health to the brave <name type ="titled">Captain</name> <name type ="historical">Hull</name>.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                We sung and we frolick'd with humor and glee,<lb/>
                Our MONEY we spent like true lads of the sea;<lb/>
                And when we were tir'd of rambling on shore,<lb/>
                We merrily went to the ocean for more.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">Our cans with good liquor were flowing quite full.<lb/>
                    And we toss'd off a health to the brave <name type ="titled">Captain</name> <name type ="historical">Hull</name>.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                Our <name type="titled">captain</name> so brave to another gave place,<lb/>
                And <name type ="historical">BAINBRIDGE</name> the noble, now join'd in the chace,<lb/>
                As gallant a hero as e'er took his turn,<lb/>
                Or stepp'd on our frigate between stem and stern.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">So our cans with good liquor were flowing quite full,<lb/>
                    And we toss'd off a health unto <name type ="historical">Bainbridge</name> and <name type ="historical">Hull</name>.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                Now sailing the ocean we heard of the fray,<lb/>
                Which the <name type ="ship">Wasp</name> and the <name type ="ship">Frolic</name> box'd out 'tother day,<lb/>
                While full peals of joy round our Frigate now rung,<lb/>
                And the praise of the heroes each jolly <name type ="symbolic">tar</name> sung.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">So our cans with good liquor were flowing quite full,<lb/>
                    And a health we toss'd off to brave <name type ="historical">Jones</name> and brave <name type ="historical">Hull</name>.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                Not many days pass'd ere further good news,<lb/>
                Come whistling thro' port-holes to true <name type ="symbolic">yankee</name> blues,<lb/>

                For we heard that <name type ="historical">DECATUR</name>, the noble and brave,<lb/>
                Had the fam'd <name type ="ship">Macedonian</name> beat on the wave.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">So our cans with good liquor were flowing quite full,<lb/>
                    And we toss'd off to <name type ="historical">Jones</name> and <name type ="historical">Decatur</name> and <name type ="historical">Hull</name></emph>.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                But now it was thought by each jolly bold heart,<lb/>
                That 'twas time for <emph rend="italic">our</emph> Frigate to play her next part,<lb/>
                So be sure while we travers'd the ocean about,<lb/>
                The men at mast-head kept the sharpest look-out.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">So our cans we toss'd off with good liquor quite full,<lb/>
                    To <name type ="historical">Bainbridge</name>, and <name type ="historical">Jones</name >, and <name type ="historical">Decatur</name>, and <name type ="historical">Hull</name>.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                At length through the wave as she plow'd in her pride,<lb/>
                The <name type ="ship">JAVA</name> our seamen exultingly spied,<lb/>
                And as usual, all strangers to cowardly fear,<lb/>
                To the brazen-fac'd hussey, we quickly drew near.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">So our cans with good liquor were flowing quite full,<lb/>
                    To <name type ="historical">Bainbridge</name>, and <name type ="historical">Jones</name>, and <name type ="historical">Decatur</name>, and <name type ="historical">Hull</name>.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                And now did our <name type ="symbolic">bull-dogs</name> most merrily bark,<lb/>
                Sure Miss <name type ="ship">JAVA</name> ne'er met such a deuced rough spark;<lb/>
                For we tore her fine rigging, and cut up her dress,<lb/>
                Till she'd not a spar standing her carcase to bless.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">So our cans we toss'd off with good liquor quite full,<lb/>
                    To <name type ="historical">Bainbridge</name>, and <name type ="historical">Jones</name>, and <name type ="historical">Decatur</name>, and <name type ="historical">Hull</name>.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                Now the battle was done, and she wish'd for no more,<lb/>
                For her decks were all cover'd with corses and gore,<lb/>
                So their red-cross the <name type ="nationality">Britons</name> were glad to haul down,<lb/>
                And to yield to <name type ="symbolic">Columbia</name> their naval renown.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">So our cans we toss'd off with good liquor quite full,<lb/>
                    To <name type ="historical">Bainbridge</name>, and <name type ="historical">Jones</name>, and <name type ="historical">Decatur</name>, and <name type ="historical">Hull</name>.</emph><lb/></p>
