THE Silver Key, doth bear the Sway,<lb/>
Where men are good or bad;<lb/>
If you have lost the silver key,<lb/>
                But little can be had.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                You may good bargains buy;<lb/>
But if you have lost the silver key,<lb/>
You may sit down and cry.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                Ill tend upon you strait;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
There you may stand and wait.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                A very honest man;<lb/>
If not, perhaps some say a knave,<lb/>
Tho' you do what you can.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
I pray, sir, stay and dine;<lb/>
But if you lost the silver key,<lb/>
You are no guest of mine.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                I love you as a friend;<lb/>
But if you have lost the silver key,<lb/>
My love is at an end.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
You may have gold of me;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
To lend I am not free.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                You many friends will find;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
But few there will be kind.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                You very seldom fail;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
                Perhaps you go to jail.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                Then cousins we will be;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
You are no kin to me.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                Respected then by all;<lb/>
But if you have lost the silver key,<lb/>
                Respects for you are small.<lb/>

If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
I pray, sir, sit you down;<lb/>
But if you lost the silver key,<lb/>
                Perhaps not drink in town.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
I pray, sir, stay and drink;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
                May stand behind and shrink.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
Then you may ate good cheer;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
                Your belly may go leer.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
Your bed, sir, I will warm;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
                Perhaps lie in a barn.<lb/>
If you have got the silver key,<lb/>
                My daughter I will spare;<lb/>
But if you've lost the silver key,<lb/>
Then you must not come there.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                SECOND PART.<lb/></p>

            <p>
THIS Key then see you get and keep,<lb/>
(Tho' some do let it ship)<lb/>
If it be gone, some are undone,<lb/>
                The belly pays for it.<lb/>
See that against next market day,<lb/>
                You get the silver key,<lb/>
If you do not, I tell you what,<lb/>
As good at home you stay.<lb/>
The silver key will make you bold,<lb/>
                You may havewhat is sold,<lb/>
The silver key, keep while you may,<lb/>
It is as good as gold.<lb/>
While you the silver key can bring,<lb/>
                You can have any thing,<lb/>
While you can pay the silver key,<lb/>
                You're welcome as a king.<lb/>
When you come to an Inn,<lb/>
This key will be your friend,<lb/>
The landlord, he, then will be free,<lb/>
                Such noble guests to tend.<lb/>
But if this key be gone,<lb/>
                Away you may go home,<lb/>

We understand fresh guests at hand,<lb/>
Friend, we must have your room.<lb/>
                This key does seldom fail,<lb/>
                But quickly can prevail,<lb/>
The silver key can find a way<lb/>
To bring men out of jail.<lb/>
When men do loose this key,<lb/>
                Then they make haste away,<lb/>
Or what is fore, they live but poor,<lb/>
If they at home do stay.<lb/>
                But some do purchase land,<lb/>
                Who better understand,<lb/>
They keep this key e'en while they may,<lb/>
He is a friend at hand.<lb/>
This key they will not lend,<lb/>
                But to some worthy friend,<lb/>
They know in vain they may complain,<lb/>
If it their friends should spend.<lb/>
But this then I will say,<lb/>
Some men have lost this key,<lb/>
And now so poor they suffer sore,<lb/>
And no debts can they pay.<lb/>
If you have got this key,<lb/>
                Respects for you are great,<lb/>
If you have not, I dare to say,<lb/>
                Must hardly dare to speek.<lb/>
If you have got this key,<lb/>
Mny take your horse and ride;<lb/>
But if you've lost this key,<lb/>
                May step perhaps aside.<lb/>
But if you chance to spend it all,<lb/>
                Then into poverty you fall,<lb/>
If you come there I do declare,<lb/>
                You will find friendship small.<lb/>
Tre silver key keep while you may,<lb/>
                Whatever care it cost.<lb/>
For you will find few will be kind,<lb/>
If yo have lost this Key.<lb/>
