                A FINE little sloop from the <placeName>Delaware</placeName> came,<lb/>
                To cruise on the seas, and the <name type ="ship">WASP</name> was her name<lb/>
                With a noble commander, who fear'd not the foe,<lb/>
                And a crew who'd stand fast, let it blow high or low.<lb/>
                CHORUS.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">Then fill up your glasses, let's laugh, drink and sing,<lb/>
                    And toast the brave <name type ="ship">Wasp</name>, which the <name type ="nationality">British</name> did sting.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                Not long had she sail'd o'er the ocean's blue wave,<lb/>
                'Ere good fortune a fine opportunity gave,<lb/>
                To convince the proud foe, who on valor oft harp,<lb/>
                That a tight <name type ="symbolic">Yankee</name> <name type ="ship">WASP</name>, has a sting that is sharp,<lb/>

            <p>
                "A sail!" was sung out by a man at mast head,<lb/>
                More rapidly on the Ship quickly sped;<lb/>
                To the <name type ="nationality">British</name> in season the <name type ="symbolic">yankees</name> drew near,<lb/>
                And each brave noble heart was undaunted by fear.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">Then fill up your glasses, let's laugh, drink, and sing,<lb/>

            <p>
                The enemy seemed in a frolicksome mood,<lb/>
                And made of the <name type ="ship">Frolick</name> as light as they cou'd,<lb/>
                But when her sharp sting the <name type ="ship">Wasp</name> 'gan to run out,<lb/>
                They began to conclude 'twas no frolicksome bout.<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">Then fill up your glasses, let's laugh, drink and sing,<lb/>

            <p>
                Then broadside, and broadside, full at it they went,<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">T</emph>he <name type ="ship">WASP</name> stung the <name type ="ship">FROLICK</name> unto her content,<lb/>

                <emph rend="italic">T</emph>he battle was won, and the triumph complete,<lb/>
                And the <name type ="ship">Frolick</name> so stung, that she own'd fairly beat.<lb/>

            <p>
                From the deck of the <name type ="ship">Wasp</name>, five seamen so brave.<lb/>
                With sorrow were launch'd to a watery grave,<lb/>
                But their comrads so bold, had the pleasure to know,<lb/>
                that sixty poor <name type ="nationality">Britons</name> went with them below.<lb/>

                But the devil of it was, that the very next day,<lb/>
                Both <name type ="ship">Frolick</name> and <name type ="ship">Wasp</name> had to steer 'tother way.<lb/>

            <p>
                A huge seventy-four with them chanc'd to meet,<lb/>
                And no chance was now left to make good a retreat,<lb/>
                To give up, the bold crew were compell'd rather loth,<lb/>
                And the <name type ="ship">Poictiers</name>, the <name type ="ship">Wasp</name>, and the <name type ="ship">Frolick</name> took both<lb/>
