                Life is a vapor of the morn,<lb/>
                '<emph rend="italic">T</emph>is Errors' unavailing sleep,<lb/>
                And scarce our eyes behold the light,<lb/>
                Ere we begin to sigh and weep.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Our years, and months, and weeks, and days,<lb/>
                Fly swift, and never can return,<lb/>
                And "creeping in this petty space,"<lb/>
                We always have some cause to mourn.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                <emph rend="italic">T</emph>he cup of joy, one moment fair,<lb/>
                Inviting stands before our view,<lb/>
                <emph rend="italic">T</emph>he next, our prospects are o'ercast,<lb/>
                With sorrow's dark and sable hue.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                <emph rend="italic">T</emph>he threatening storm of woe descends,<lb/>
                And falls on the devoted head,<lb/>
                We sink beneath the chastning rod,<lb/>
                And find our earthly comforts fled.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                And 'oft some friend or kindred dear,<lb/>
                Who holds a place within the heart,<lb/>
                Is sudden call'd from earth away,<lb/>
                Forever from us doom'd to part.<lb/></p>

                Our souls be overwhelm'd in grief,<lb/>

                And seek in vain for sweet relief.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Oh! while we serious think of those,<lb/>

            <p>
                May we to solemn thoughts incline,<lb/>
                Reflecting that the life of man,<lb/>
                E'en at its most extended date,<lb/>
                Is but a short, uncertain span.<lb/></p>

                Perhaps with joy were fair and bright,<lb/>

            <p>
                May we remember, that each hour,<lb/>

                Our life is but a slender thread,<lb/>

                Where we may live with joy elate.<lb/></p>
