            <p>The Happy Man.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                THE happy man was born in the city<lb/>
                of Regeneration, in the parish of<lb/>
                Repentance unto Life;-he was edu-<lb/>
                cated at the school of Obedience, and now<lb/>
                lives in Perseverence;--he works at the<lb/>
                trade of Diligence, notwithstanding he has<lb/>
                a large estate in the county of <name type ="religious">Christian</name><lb/>
                Contentment, and many times does jobbs<lb/>
                of self-denial;-he wears the plain gar-<lb/>
                ment of humility, and has a better suit to<lb/>
                put on when he goes to court, called The<lb/>
                Robe of <name type ="religious">Christ's</name> Righteousness;-he often<lb/>
                walks in the vally of Self-abasement, and<lb/>
                sometimes climes the mountains of Spirit-<lb/>
                ual-mindedness;--he breakfasts every<lb/>
                morning on Spiritual Prayer, and sups<lb/>
                every evening on the same, and has meat<lb/>
                to eat that the world knows not off, and<lb/>
                his drink is the sincere milk of the word.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Thus happy he lives, and happy he dies;<lb/>
                happy is he who has gospel submission in<lb/>
                his Will, due order in his Affe&amp;tion, found<lb/>
                peace in his Conscience, san&amp;tifying grace<lb/>
                in his Soul, real divinity in his Breast,<lb/>
                true humility in his Heart, the Redeemer's<lb/>
                yoke on his Neck, a vain world under his<lb/>
                Feet, a crown of glory over his Head, hap-<lb/>
                py is the Life of such an one:- in order to<lb/>
                attain which, Pray fervently, Believe firm-<lb/>
                ly, Wait patiently, Work abundantly, live<lb/>
                Holy, die Daily, watch your Heart, guide<lb/>
                your Senses, redeem your Time, love<lb/>
                <name type ="religious">Christ</name>, long for Glory.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Should we be carried to the skies,<lb/>
                On flow'ry beds of ease?<lb/>
                While others fight to win the prize,<lb/>
                And sail through bloody seas.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Yes, we must fight, if we would reign,<lb/>
                Increase our courage, <name type ="mythological">Lord</name>,<lb/>
                To bear the cross, endure the shame,<lb/>
                Supported by thy word:<lb/></p>

            <p>The True Gentleman.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                A TRUE Gentleman is <name type ="mythological">GOD's</name> Ser-<lb/>
                vant, the world's Master, and his<lb/>
                own Man. Virtue is his business, Study<lb/>
                his recreation, Contentedness his rest, and<lb/>
                Happiness his reward;- <name type ="mythological">GOD</name> is his Father,<lb/>
                the Church his Mother, the Saints his<lb/>
                Brethren, all that need him his friends.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Heaven is his inheritance, Religion his<lb/>
                mistress, Loyalty and Justice his two ladies<lb/>
                of honor; Devotion is his chaplain, Chasti-<lb/>
                ty his chamberlain, Sobriety his butler,<lb/>
                Temperance his cook, Hospitality his house-<lb/>
                keeper, Providence his steward, Charity his<lb/>
                treasurer, Discretion his porter to let out<lb/>
                and in as is most fit.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Thus his whole family made up of Vir-<lb/>
                tues, and he is the true master of his fami-<lb/>
                ly.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                He is necessitated to take the world in<lb/>
                his way to heaven, but walks through as<lb/>
                fast as he can, and all his business (by the<lb/>
                way) is to make himself and others happy.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Take him all in two words, he is a Man,<lb/>
                a <name type ="religious">Christian</name>.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Farewell vain world, I bid adieu,<lb/>
                Your glories I despise;<lb/>
                Your friendship I no more pursue,<lb/>
                Your flatt'ries are but lies.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                You promise happiness in vain,<lb/>
                Nor can you satisfy;<lb/>
                Your highest pleasures turn to pain,<lb/>
                And all your treasures die.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Had I the <placeName>Indies</placeName>, East and West,<lb/>
                And riches of the sea;<lb/>
                Without my <name type="mythological">GOD</name> I could not rest,<lb/>
                For he is all to me.<lb/></p>
