            <p>
                The first was old <name type ="historical">Bluff</name> with a swinging purse;<lb/>
                Pull away, pull away, jolly boys!<lb/>
                He was cast away, said <name type ="historical">Meg</name> who cares a curse?<lb/>
                As for grieving why, <name type ="mythological">lord</name>, that's a folly boys:<lb/>
                The second in command was blear ey'd <name type ="historical">Ned</name>;<lb/>
                While a surgeon his limb was a lopping,<lb/>
                A nine pounder came and smack'd of his head,<lb/>
                Pull away, pull away, pull away, I say!<lb/>
                Rare news for my <name type ="historical">Meg</name> of <placeName>Wapping</placeName>.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                The she married to <name type ="historical">Sam</name>, and <name type ="historical">Sam</name> lov'd a sup,<lb/>
                Pull away, pull away, pull away, brother!<lb/>
                So groggy <name type ="historical">Sam</name> got-and the ship blew up<lb/>
                And <name type ="historical">Meg</name> had to look for another:<lb/></p>

            <p>
                The fourth was bold <name type ="historical">Ben</name> who at danger would smile,<lb/>
                'Till his courage a crockodile stopping,<lb/>
                Made his breakfast of <name type ="historical">Ben</name> on the banks of the <placeName>Nile</placeName>,<lb/>
                Pull away, pull away, pull away, I say,<lb/>
                What a fortunate <name type ="historical">Meg</name> of <placeName>Wapping</placeName>!<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Stay, who was the fifth? O'twas <name type ="historical">Dick</name> so neat,<lb/>
                Pull away, pull away, so merry!<lb/>
                And the <name type ="symbolic">Savages</name> <name type ="historical">Dick</name> both killed and eat,<lb/>
                And poor <name type ="historical">Meg</name> she was forced to take <name type ="historical">Jerry</name>:<lb/>
                Death again stood her friend, for, kill'd in a fray,<lb/>
                He also the grave chanc'd to pop in;<lb/>
                So now with my song I shall soon belay,<lb/>
                Pull away, pull away, pull away, belay,<lb/>
                The six husbands of <name type ="historical">Meg</name> of <placeName>Wapping</placeName>,<lb/></p>

            <p>
                But I did not tell you how that she married seven,<lb/>
                Pull away, pull away, so neatly!<lb/>
                'Twas honest <name type ="historical">Tom Trip</name> and he sent her to heaven<lb/>
                And her strong box rummaged sweetly;<lb/>
                For <name type ="historical">Meg</name> growing old, a fond dotard prov'd,<lb/>
                And must after a boy needs be hopping;<lb/>
                So she popp'd off and <name type ="historical">Tom</name> with the girl that he lov'd<lb/>
                Pull away, pull away, pull away, I say,<lb/>
                Spent the shiners of <name type ="historical">Meg</name> of <placeName>Wapping</placeName>.<lb/></p>
