    <text>
        <body>
           <p>
           YE true sons of freedom, give ear to my song,<lb />
           While the praise of brave <name type="historical">HULL</name> I attempt to prolong,<lb />
           Let each bold-hearted hero now fill up his glass,<lb />
           And our favorite sentiment rapidly pass.<lb />
           CHORUS.<lb />
           <emph rend="italic">With our brave noble <name type="titled">Captain</name>, we'll still plow the main,<lb />
           "We'll fight and we'll conquer, again and again."</emph><lb />
           </p>

           <p>
           With a fine springing breeze, our sails they were bent,<lb />
           And with hearts full of joy to the ocean we went,<lb />
           In the fam'd <emph rend="italic"><name type ="ship">CONSTITUTION</name></emph> a taught and staunch boat,<lb />
           As ever was seen on the water afloat.<lb />
           <emph rend="italic">With our brave noble <name type="titled">Captain</name> we plow'd the deep main,<lb />
           And when he commands we are ready again.</emph><lb />
           </p>

           <p>
           On the <date>twentieth of August</date>, a sail we espied,<lb />
           We hove to, and soon she came up along side;<lb />
           The Drum beat to quarters, to quarters we run,<lb />
           And each <name type ="symbolic">tar</name> bravely swore to stand fast to his gun.<lb />
           <emph rend="italic">Our <name type="titled">Captain</name> so brave, as we sail'd on the Main,<lb />
           Now bid us a harvest of glory to gain.</emph><lb />
           </p>

           <p>
           A broadside the foe quickly into us pour'd.<lb />
           We return'd 'em the favor direct on the word,<lb />
           Each heart was undaunted, no bosom knew fear,<lb />
           And we car'd not a snap for the saucy <emph rend="italic"><name type ="ship">Guerriere</name></emph>.<lb />
           <emph rend="italic">With our noble <name type="titled">Commander</name> we fought on the Main,<lb />
           And We'll conquer with him when he bids us again.</emph><lb />
           </p>

           <p>
           The balls now flew thick, and quite warm was the play,<lb />
           Their masts and their rigging we soou shot away,<lb />
           We shatter'd their hull with all possible speed,<lb />
           With our good spunky <emph rend="italic">"<name type ="symbolic">bull-dogs</name></emph>, of true <name type ="symbolic">yankee</name> breed."<lb />
           <emph rend="italic">'Twas thus with our <name type="titled">Captain</name> we fought on the Main,<lb />
           With him a rich harvest of glory to gain.</emph><lb/>
           </p>

           <p>
           The blood from the enemy's scuppers ran fast,<lb/>
           All hopes of subduing us now were quite past:<lb/>
           So they wisely concluded, "by hob or by nob;<lb />
           </p>

            <p>
            "That 'twas best to give o'er what they thought a bad job."<lb/>
            <emph  rend="italic">With our true noble <name type="titled">Captain</name>, we'll fight on the Main,<lb/>
            And we hope that with him, we'll soon conquer again.</emph><lb />
            </p>

            <p>
            The <name type="nationality">Britons</name> had seldom before seen the like,<lb/>
            For we rak'd 'em so clean, <emph rend="italic">they'd no colours to strike;</emph><lb />
            So a gun on their lee they were forc'd to let fly,<lb/>
            To inform us they didn't quite all wish to die.<lb/>
            <emph  rend="italic">'Twas thus with our <name type="titled">Captain</name> we fought on the Main,<lb/>
            And we're-ready brave boys, to fight with him again.</emph><lb />
            </p>

            <p>
            In twenty-five minutes, the business was done,<lb/>
            For they didn't quite relish such true <name type ="symbolic">Yankee</name> fun;<lb/>
            So we kindly receiv'd 'em on board our good ship,<lb/>
            Many cursing the day when they took their last trip.<lb/>
            <emph rend="italic">With our brave noble <name type="titled">Captain</name> we'll still plow the Main,<lb />
            We'll fight and we'll conquer again and again.</emph><lb />
            </p>

            <p>
            Now homeward we're bound, with a favoring breeze,<lb />
            As full of good humor and mirth as you please,<lb />
            Each true-hearted sailor partakes of the glass,<lb />
            And drinks off a health to his favorite lass,<lb />
            <emph rend="italic">With our brave noble <name type="titled">Captain</name> we've plow'd the deep Main,<lb />
            With him we the laurels of glory did gain.</emph><lb />
            </p>

            <p>
            Now success to the good <emph rend="italic"><name type ="ship">CONSTITUTION</name></emph>, a boat,<lb />
            Which her crew will defend while a plank is afloat,<lb />
            Who never will flinch, or in duty e'er lag,<lb />
            But will stick to the last by the <name type="nationality">American</name> flag.<lb />
            <emph rend="italic">So true to our colors we'll ever remain,<lb />
            And we'll conquer for freedom again and again.</emph><lb />
            </p>

            <p>
            When again we shall plow old <name type="mythological">Neptune's</name> blue wave,<lb />
            May honors still circle the brows of the brave,<lb />
            And should our bold foes wish to give us a pull,<lb />
            We'll show 'em the goed <emph rend="italic"><name type ="ship">CONSTITUTION</name> and <name type="historical">HULL</name></emph>,<lb />
            <emph rend="italic">And now with three cheers ere we sail to the Main.<lb />
            We will greet our brave <name type="titled">Captain</name> again and again.</emph><lb />
            </p>
