            <p><name type ="symbolic">Erin</name> go Brah.-In English,<name type="nationality"> Ireland</name> for ever</p><lb />

<p>There came to the beach a poor Exile <lb />
            of <name type ="symbolic">Erin</name> ; <lb />
The dew on his thin robe was heavy and chill,<lb />
For his country he figh'd, when at twilight<lb />
            repairing. <lb />
To wander alone by the wind beaten hill. <lb />
But the day flat attracted his eye's sad devo-<lb />
            tion, <lb />
For it rose on his own native isle of the ocean ;<lb />
Where once in the flow of his youthful emo-<lb />
            tion, <lb />
He sung the bold anthem of <name type ="symbolic">Erin</name> go Brah.<lb /></p>

<p>Oh! sad is my fate, said the heart broken<lb />
            stranger, <lb />
The wild deer and wolf to a covert can flee ; <lb />
But I, have no refuge from famine or danger, <lb />
A home and a country remain not for me! <lb />
Ah never again in the green shady bowers,<lb />
            Where my forefathers liv'd, shall I spend <lb />
            the sweet hours ;<lb />
Or cover my harp with the wild woven flowers <lb />
And strike to the numbers of <name type ="symbolic">Erin</name> go Brah; <lb /></p>

            <p><name type ="symbolic">Erin</name>, my country ! tho' sad and forsaken, <lb />
            In dreams I revisit thy sea-beaten shore; <lb />
            But alas ! in a far foreign land I awaken, <lb />
And sigh for the friends who can meet me <lb />
            no more ; <lb />
Oh cruel fate, wilt though never replace me, <lb />
In a mansion of bliss, where no peril can<lb />
            chase me? <lb />
Ah never again shall my brothers embrace<lb />
            me! <lb />
They died to defend, or live to deplore! <lb /></p>

<p>Where is my cabin door fast by the wild wood <lb />
Sisters, and fire, did ye weep for its fall? <lb />
Where is my mother, who watch'd o'er my <lb />
            childhood, <lb />
And where is the bosomfriend dearer than all? <lb />
Ah! My sad soul ! long abandon'd by plea-<lb />
            sure, <lb />
Why did it doat on a fast-fading treasure ?<lb />
Tears like the rain drop may fall without measure, <lb /></p>

<p>But rapture and beauty, they cannot recall.<lb /></p>

<p>Yet all its fond recollections suppressing,
One dying with my lone bosom shall draw <lb />
<name type ="symbolic">Erin</name>, an Exile, bequeaths thee his blessing,<lb />
Land of my forefather, <name type ="symbolic">Erin</name> go Brah. <lb />
Buried, and cold, when my heart stills its<lb />
            motion; <lb />
Green be thy fields sweetest isle of the ocean ; <lb />
And thy harp stringing bards, sing aloud <lb />
            with devotion, <lb />

Put on your best bibs and be coming together,<lb />

The music shall be sweetly playing, <lb />
Each shall be dancing and skipping around, <lb />
Green shamrocks shall shine, sir, <lb />
To make us all fine, sir ; <lb />
            Salt fish and potatoes<lb />
Shall smoke my dear creatures, <lb />
And nothing be wanting that there can be <lb />
            found ;<lb />
Full bumpers of whisky, <lb />
Will make us all frisky,<lb />

And play till the evening's return ;<lb />
With mirth and music, dance and caper <lb />
While each pretty miss, sir,<lb />
            We'll smuggle and kiss, sir, <lb />
And pull 'em and haul 'em; <lb />
And tenderly maul 'em, <lb />
Arrah, who in the world are so marry as we? <lb />
All this to begin, sir, <lb />
We think it no sin, sir, <lb />
