            <p>
                COME, hear an invitation, I pray you now attend,<lb/>
                And quit your sinful stations, and strive for to amend,<lb/>
                Our days are most dissolved, and spent in sin and pride,<lb/>
                Come, be with me resolved to lay them all aside.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                And take the happy courses that lead us to the way,<lb/>
                Or <name type ="religious">satan</name> and his forces will lead our souls astray:<lb/>
                It leads us to a fountain which we desire to see,<lb/>
                If still we are abounding in deep humility.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Remember your <name type ="symbolic">Creator</name> while you are in your prime,<lb/>
                And <name type ="historical">Christ</name> the Mediator, who us redeem'd in time,<lb/>
                O that we might believe it, what <name type ="historical">Christ</name> for us had done,<lb/>
                O then we should receive him, <name type ="mythological">God's</name> best beloved Son.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                For <name type ="mythological">God</name> hath sent his servants, that them we should believe,<lb/>
                And in the means be fervent by which we may receive<lb/>
                A kind and loving <name type ="symbolic">Saviour</name>, to be our only guide,<lb/>
                To keep us in <name type ="mythological">God's</name> favour, from <name type ="religious">satan</name>, sin, and pride.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Into our sinful nation we see them here arrive,<lb/>
                The <name type ="mythological">Lord</name> hath sent salvation, religion doth revive,<lb/>
                Vile sinners are returning to find the happy way,<lb/>
                And <name type ="religious">christians</name> are a mourning for they are gone astray.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                But here's the greatest wonder, that we can now behold<lb/>
                Young children a great number, as well as many old,<lb/>
                Believe and are converted, who read and sing and pray,<lb/>
                Though many that's departed oppose them in their way.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Now sinners are converted that once did go astray,<lb/>
                And saints that have departed are brought into the way;<lb/>
                While sinners are a mourning to see their dangerous state,<lb/>
                And some there are returning, but fear it is too late.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                We see a reformation begins for to prevail,<lb/>
                In this our sinful nation, O may it never fail!<lb/>
                Till the whole earth be fill'd with knowledge &amp; with grace,<lb/>
                Till sin is all expelled, and never more have place.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                O let us be awakened! there is danger nigh at hand,<lb/>
                We fear there's some great judgment a coming on our land,<lb/>
                For wars and great commotions have fill'd the earth around,<lb/>
                And sin like a great ocean, doth thro' the world abound.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Famine or sword or sickness, O let it not take place!<lb/>
                Till we receive the witness and fulness of thy grace;<lb/>
                Till sin is all forgiven, that when we come to die,<lb/>
                That we may go to heaven, and dwell above the sky.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                That we may stand before thee in that tremendous day,<lb/>
                And with the saints adore thee, and ne'er be cast away;<lb/>
                <name type ="mythological">Lord</name> here on earth prepare us, that there we may be found,<lb/>
                And let thy right hand bear us, at the last trumpet's found.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Then let our hearts be joined a holy life to live,<lb/>
                And let us be resigned in <name type ="historical">Jesus</name> to believe;<lb/>
                For there's the greatest treasure that ever we can gain,<lb/>
                That is a world of pleasure that ever will remain.<lb/></p>

            <p><emph rend="italic">THE TRUE <name type ="religious">CHRISTIAN'S</name> ANCHOR HOLD.</emph><lb/></p>

            <p>
                HAIL! sovereign Love, that first began<lb/>
                The scheme to rescue fallen man:<lb/>
                Hail! matchless free Eternal Grace,<lb/>
                That gave my soul a hiding place.<lb/></p>

                But lo! the eternal counsel ran,<lb/>

                I felt the arrows of distress,<lb/>
                And found I had no hiding place.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Vindi&amp;tive justice stood in view,<lb/>
                To <placeName>Sinai's</placeName> fiery mount I flew;<lb/>
                But justice cry'd with frowning face,<lb/>
                This mountain is no hiding place.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                But lo! a heavenly voice I heard,<lb/>
                And mercy's angel soon appear'd,<lb/>
                He led me on a pleasant pace,<lb/>
                To <name type ="historical">Jesus</name> as a hiding place.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                Should seven fold storms of thunder roll,<lb/>
                And shake the globe from pole to pole,<lb/>
                No thunderbolt can daunt my face,<lb/>

                On him almighty vengeance fell,<lb/>
                That might have sent a world to hell,<lb/>
                He bore it for the chosen race,<lb/>
                And thus became a hiding place.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                A few more rolling suns at most,<lb/>
                Will land me on fair <placeName>Canaan's</placeName> coast,<lb/>
                Where I shall sing the song of grace,<lb/>
                And see our glorious hiding place.<lb/></p>

            <p><emph rend="italic">THOUGHTS ON DEATH</emph>.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                HARK! hark! how swift the moments fly,<lb/>
                And I not yet prepar'd to die;<lb/>
                By day, by night, the summons sounds,<lb/>
                But sleep or care its crying drowns.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                The peals of death, both great and small,<lb/>
                In various notes do on us call;<lb/>
                Youth slides away in shriller moans<lb/>
                And age expires in deepest groans.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                The trembling walls around awake,<lb/>
                And stones o'er graves, affrighted shake;<lb/>
                Whilst men sleep, eat, talk, laugh and drink,<lb/>
                And like brute beasts, ne'er on it think.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                On lines of life our bodies hung,<lb/>
                As heavy weights still downward run;<lb/>
                But ne'er again up to be wound,<lb/>
                When once they touch the fatal ground.<lb/></p>

            <p>
                O! count the moments then that beat,<lb/>
                While circling blood renews the heat;<lb/>
                For by those measures thou must rate<lb/>
                Thine hopes of an ETERNAL state.<lb/></p>
