Cornwallis Portrait (opposite p. 5 in extra-illustrated Life)

Description

A portrait of Lord Cornwallis appears opposite a description of Jackson’s participation in the Revolutionary War as a young boy of fourteen. After the death of his older brother, Jackson and another brother were captured and badly treated by British forces: an officer slashed at Andrew with his sword when the future president refused to clean his boots and also dealt his brother Robert an eventually fatal blow to the head.
